Currently Nissan has sold over 228,00 examples of the Nissan Leaf world wide making this the best selling EV(Electric Vehicle)in history. The leaf was developed with families in mind and practicality. But Nissan also has a very rich racing pedigree and it was only befitting that their electric ambitions would drive them to venture into the high performance car arena. The Nissan GTR,their most iconic sports car to date, has punched way above its weight since its inception and with each iteration it just seems to get better at being a car and better at going faster than any of its rivals.

With more and more car companies introducing either fully electric cars or hybrid cars to their range it was only a matter of time before a car company built a pure sports car which ran on electricity. One might mention the Tesla roadster but unfortunately it is no longer in production. Here is where the Nissan Blade Glider comes in.Birthed as a concept in 2013 the Blade Glider was envisioned as a vehicle which would “combine zero emissions with high performance.”

The performance stats are:0-100 kph in under 5 seconds,200kw of power and a monstrous torque figure of 707nm hauling around 1300kg of weight. To put that into perspective a Ferrari 458 Italia has 560nm of torque.Power is supplied by a 220kw lithium ion battery with two 130kw electric motors driving each rear wheel. The car also features torque vectoring with three modes:off, agile and drift mode.

The Blade Glider’s sporting intentions have been made very clear in the seating arrangement:the driver seat is central flanked by passenger seats on either side reminiscent of the legendary McLaren F1.

Two Blade Gliders were presented in Rio de Janeiro in August this year. One was used as a display vehilce while the other was used to offer rides to members of the media and V.I.P.s.
